IBG was a successful 501(c)3 organization that, over the course of our 6 years as a working non-profit, raised over $200,000 for various charities worldwide. We as a company have decided our passions currently lie less in event planning for non-profits (which was IBG’s primary function and Mission Statement) and more in leveling the playing field for young women and girls from marginalized communities. Therefore, we are shifting our efforts to that focus as we embark on a new and exciting non-profit adventure.
As we’re quite certain you are aware, a lack of online or social media presence actually has very little to do with the existence and/or validity of a company. While it is true we are limiting the web presence of IBG as we move forward with our next non-profit, our lack of a Twitter account has zero bearing on our copyrights, which remain in tact. Additionally, if the DVD were not for sale, the uploading and sharing would still be in violation of the copyright.
As the GADD Conversation Series DVD is so popular, and as proceeds continue to benefit charity, we felt for the sake of SA-YES it was best to continue to make the item available for legal purchase during this transitional period. The nature of our agreement with the talent involved permits us to make this decision at our sole discretion.
We are certainly always thrilled to see fans’ continued excitement for this DVD, but as any illegal sharing only hurts the charity, we encourage all fans who would like to own a copy to purchase it legally.
IBG doesn’t exist at all anymore??
I guess I can post the link I’ve been sharing privately for, erm, some time:
IBG “Conversation with DD and GA” (download parts and join with HJSplit)
Someone else can figure out how to post it to YouTube; I will be posting clips with transcript to get them all archived by topic.
Please note this is in direct violation of our copyright, which remains in tact. We have informed the original poster that this link is illegal and asked for it to be removed immediately. Additionally, the DVD remains for sale, benefiting charity, and may be purchased here: http://bit.ly/1ohhwcR. We encourage everyone who would like a copy to purchase it legally and support SA-YES.
Dear Dormant Fandom-Based Charity,
You probably know that your website IBCInc.org is now defunct, as well as your Twitter account. I did check both of these before posting — though I guess I forgot your Tumblr (which hasn’t been updated in a year).
The fact that you have a working PayPal link for people to send you money for a DVD which originally benefited a charity which apparently no longer exists is — to put it bluntly — a little strange.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not actually accusing you of misappropriating money from the sale of this DVD. I think you were probably a small startup charity run by fans that just ended up being difficult to maintain for various reasons. And I’m grateful you were able to organize the “Conversation” event while you had the momentum. But you should know that it appears pretty unprofessional that your website (and, apparently, your charity org) no longer exists, but you are still charging fans for a DVD.
Moreover, while I think your motives are well-intentioned, defending your copyright when fans post EXCERPTS of the recording, as I did years back, (fans comprising, as they do, your entire market for this product), shows a certain tone-deafness toward the whole enterprise.
I’ll take my link down, but I think you have missed the boat here. Good luck with your future endeavors.
